Ogden Raptors win 2nd-half title, defeat Idaho Falls 7-4

OGDEN — Starter Trevor Oaks gave up one run in three innings, Rylan Bannon smacked two doubles and the Ogden Raptors won the Pioneer League South Division second-half title with a 7-4 victory over Idaho Falls on Friday at Lindquist Field.

A weekend crowd of 4,833 fans saw the Raptors (24-13, 47-28) extend their franchise-best win total to 47 games in the penultimate game of the regular season.

The win, combined with Orem’s 13-9 loss to Grand Junction, gave Ogden the second-half crown.

Donovan Casey tripled and Carlos Rincon doubled as part of a four-run, five-hit inning to give Ogden a 4-1 lead after three innings.

Amalani Fukofuka homered in the second and doubled in the fourth, the second of which helped Idaho Falls (15-22, 32-43) cut the deficit to 4-3 after four innings.

Casey finished the scoring with a two-run double in the eighth for the final 7-4 tally.

Jesus Vargas picked up the win in his first appearance as a Raptor, giving up two earned runs in four innings of middle relief.

Zach Hartman pitched two scoreless innings for the save.

Ogden and Idaho Falls finish the regular season with a game 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Lindquist Field.

PLAYOFF SCHEDULE, TICKETS

Ogden hosts Orem in game one of the South Division playoff series at 4 p.m. Sunday. All tickets are $5 and are available now. Season-ticket holders will have tickets held at will call, also for $5 each.

Orem will host games two (and three, if necessary) Monday and Tuesday, both at 6:35 p.m.

In the North Division series, Missoula is set to take on Great Falls starting Sunday.

HOME RUN RACE

Grand Junction hit four home runs Friday and leads Ogden 113-103 in the season-end race to determine which franchise will hold the new Pioneer League record for team home runs in a season. Both eclipsed the previous record of 97.
